Bosch Performance Line CX: New drive unit, new ABS, new display

Power for e-bikes

Bosch has introduced the Performance Line CX, a new e-bike motor that delivers up to 85 Nm of torque and up to 600 watts. And it gets even bigger!

85 Nm torque. Up to 600 watts of power. And up to 340 percent support. The new Performance Line CX (BDU384Y) from Bosch promises such performance data for e-bikes. For the drive unit, i.e. the motor, Bosch promises that the power should develop in accordance with the driving maneuver and the pedal input. This is made possible by a newly interpreted sensor system, for example the pedal input is measured more than 1,000 times per second. Inertial sensors (IMU) also measure acceleration and rotation rates in six dimensions and detect pitch and inclination angles as well as vibrations. The eMTB “knows” how steep the climb is and whether the eBiker is on a forest path or a root trail.

According to its own statements, Bosch has also optimized the transmission of the new Performance Line CX (BDU384Y) with a view to a balanced balance of power development, efficiency and noise development. When driving downhill, the external drive train (chain, chainring, cassette) is decoupled from the internal drive train (freewheel, gear, motor). This made it possible to reduce mechanical noise that comparable drive units generate on the trail. In addition, the weight has been reduced by around 100 grams.

By the way, there is now also a hill start aid that intervenes fully automatically using sensors. Also new: With the pushing assistance function, the Drive Unit adapts the pushing speed to the walking speed.

New ABS system and display from Bosch

Also new is the new Bosch eBike ABS Pro for high-performance braking systems. The system increases driving stability by allowing late and strong braking, if possible without the front wheel slipping. Bosch incorporated experience and technology from eMTB racing into the development. This resulted in two ABS Pro modes: ABS Trail Pro and ABS Race.

The Purion 400 display is also part of the ecosystem and complements the Performance Line CX. With an optics adapted to eMTBs and positioned protected in the handlebar triangle, the transmissive 1.6 inch display offers an overview of the essential riding and fitness data such as speed, range, power or total distance.

PowerTube 600 and 800 are coming

On multi-day tours with many meters of altitude, energy reserves play a crucial role. That’s why Bosch has them PowerTube 800 developed – the largest PowerTube battery in the smart system to date, tailored to the new Performance Line CX. At around 205 Wh/kg, the battery contains the highest energy density in the portfolio. The portfolio is supplemented by the new one PowerTube 600.

For both batteries, Bosch uses battery cells with optimized energy density and a newly developed aluminum housing. Seamlessly integrated into the frame tube, they should be able to be integrated into the eBike design as harmoniously as possible. Thanks to their identical length, they can be easily removed and replaced – if provided by the eBike manufacturer. They are also DualBattery-capable and can be combined. For example, eMTB enthusiasts can use two PowerTubes 800 to achieve a total capacity of 1,600 Wh.
