Most of the employees subject to layoffs work in the field of software development for cars – in this sector it is planned to cut 3.5 thousand jobs by the end of 2027. About half of them will be in Germany, the magazine writes.
In addition, Bosch will lay off approximately 2,000 workers in the coming years in Hildesheim and Schwäbisch Gmünd in Germany. Spiegel clarified that the figures for the proposed cuts may not be final – the exact number will be determined after negotiations between the company and workers’ representatives.
The company explained the reductions by the fact that automakers began to order significantly fewer parts for electric vehicles than planned. In addition, demand for driver assistance systems and automated driving solutions has been lower than expected, with many of these projects being suspended or cancelled.
In November Bosch announced about plans to fire 7 thousand employees in Germany due to business problems. Later that month at the company reportedwhich will reduce the working hours and salaries of 450 employees due to the difficult economic situation.
The German auto industry is experiencing another blow, noted Reuters. Earlier in November, Ford announced plans to cut almost 4 thousand jobs. Also at the end of October, Volkswagen announced its intention to close at least three factories in Germany and lay off “tens of thousands” of employees.
