The French brand Lacoste is already quite well known here in the Czech Republic. But few realize the story behind the brand. What is the Lacoste one? Do you know that?
The Lacoste brand was founded shortly before World War II in France in 1933 by tennis player René Lacoste. And since this one, as a representative of the white sport (tennis), had the nickname Krokodyl, which caught on very well, it was also reflected in the brand as its logo.

The first piece with the crocodile logo was long before 1933 and the founding of the brand his white sports jacket, on which his friend designer Roberta George embroidered the crocodile emblem, and René Lacoste always wore it proudly before every match when he went to the tennis court.

Woman Polo Tee is a pink women’s polo shirt with a subtle crocodile logo on the front of the shirt behind 1,890 CZK.
Even other pieces that entered four years later were originally intended only for his sporting needs. It was a line of cotton T-shirts. There were no other polo shirts at that time. Only the tennis one, which had a white color, short sleeves, a collar and was always made of pique jersey. That’s why René Lacoste’s cotton polo shirt with the requisite crocodile logo was so unique.

T-shirt is a white men’s t-shirt with short sleeves with a black motif on the front and back 1,200 CZK.
And it wasn’t until the mentioned year of 1933, when René Lacoste ended his tennis career, that René Lacoste founded the company Le Chemise Lacoste sa, which he opened together with André Gillier, the owner of the largest French knitwear factory. From the very beginning, the company’s products included a white Lacoste polo shirt with a crocodile embroidered on the chest. Well, it was only a short distance to other stylish sports clothing designed mainly for sailing and golf.

Woman Polo Tee is a black women’s polo shirt with long sleeves with a raglan fastening in the front behind CZK 1,970.
However, the company experienced its greatest boom in the mid-1920s, when colorful tennis clothing was introduced to the market. So, the polo shirt with the iconic crotch in the logo was available in many color shades. During the sixties, René Lacoste’s son Bernard Lacoste took over the management of the company and the company flourished more and more. And so much so that she became known even across the ocean. Thanks to expansion to the next continent, the assortment continued to expand and included many fashionable pieces such as shorts, fashion accessories, sunglasses, watches and jewelry, as well as shoes.
Lacoste Crossbody Bag Lacoste
Crossbody Bag is a messenger bag type with a discreet colored logo on the outer part of the back 1,959 CZK.
Later, the notional scepter of the company was passed to Bernard’s younger brother, Michael Lacoste. And so, even after 85 years, the brand is still in the game and even today the crocodile holds its place among sports brands. And you will still see most of them on the tennis court or on the golf course. Although thanks to interesting collaborations with Opening Ceremony and Supreme, the Lacoste brand is also well established in other streetwear.
