Six Vietnamese bodies found in a luxury hotel room in Ratchaprasong area, suspected of being poisoned; officials investigating; PM prepares to visit the area to investigate

Today, 16 July 2014, the investigating officer of Lumpini Police Station received a report of a deceased person found in a famous hotel in the Ratchaprasong area. Therefore, they inspected the scene of the incident in a hotel room on the 6th floor. Initially, they found the deceased as foreigners of Vietnamese nationality, a total of 6 bodies, 3 males and 3 females, of which 2 were Vietnamese nationals, in the same room.

While Pol. Gen. Torsak Sukwimol, the national police chief, was informed that at approximately 5:30 p.m., Lumpini Police Station was notified by employees of the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel that there was a death at the hotel. Pol. Col. Yingyot Suwanno, the superintendent of Lumpini Police Station, led a team to inspect the scene and found 6 deceased persons at the hotel. He notified the forensic doctor and forensic officers to jointly inspect the scene. Pol. Lt. Gen. Thiti Sangsawang, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, along with Pol. Maj. Gen. Noppasin Poolsawat, the deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, and the commander of Metropolitan Police Division 5 jointly inspected the scene and found the cause of death. The national police chief ordered an urgent investigation to find the cause of death and to track down the perpetrators as soon as possible. He also ordered forensic officers to immediately inspect the scene.

The latest update is that police officers have cordoned off the area and are investigating. Prime Minister Settha Thavisin has ordered an urgent investigation into the incident. Pol. Gen. Torsak Sukwimol, the national police chief, has traveled to inspect the scene himself.

Pol. Col. Thiradej Thamsuthee, Commander of Investigation Division, Metropolitan Police Bureau, revealed that the deceased were 3 males and 3 females, all foreigners. Checking their nationalities, it was found that all were Vietnamese, and 2 of them were American. From the initial examination of the scene, it is believed that they were poisoned, and there were traces of drinking tea or coffee. Initially, the cause of death has not been determined, but it is expected to be poisoning. As for whether the murder was due to business betrayal, revenge, or some strange cult, the police have not yet concluded, but have raised several investigative issues.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Thiti Sangsawang, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, provided additional information that from the inspection of the scene, there were no signs of a struggle. The bodies were found together in the same room. This room was opened and they had to check out today (July 16). The bags had already been packed. Currently, forensic officers are conducting a detailed autopsy and examining all related evidence.
