A passenger plane belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines, going from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to Grozny, the capital of the Chechen Republic, gave an ’emergency’ call over the Caspian Sea today.
The plane, with 67 passengers and five crew members on board, crashed to the ground and caught fire while making an emergency landing at Aktau Airport in Kazakhstan.
Azerbaijan Airlines announced that the accident occurred when the Embraer 190 type aircraft with flight number ‘J2-8243’, operating the Baku-Grozny flight, was trying to land 3 kilometers from the airport.
Initial information is that the plane crashed after hitting a flock of birds.
Six people survived with injuries
Many teams were sent to the accident area. While their team was first fighting the flames, they rescued the injured on the plane.
Kazakhstan Minister of Health Akmara Alnazarova stated that six people survived the accident with injuries and said, “It is known that there are six survivors so far, their condition is extremely serious.” he said.
