A powerful fire has been extinguished since the morning of Friday, January 10, on the territory of the Barrikada acetone production plant in the Leningrad region.
The fire occurred in a two-story building on Industrialnaya Street in Gatchina. Bright flashes and plumes of smoke were observed in the emergency area. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations have been working at the scene for two hours already, the department’s press service reported.
The fire was assigned an increased complexity level of No. 2. Information about the victims is being clarified.
The SHOT Telegram channel, citing eyewitnesses, reports muffled explosions in the industrial zone and huge columns of smoke visible several kilometers away. Netizens share footage from the fire scene.
The fire area is currently 1900 square meters. m. More than 50 employees and 12 pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire, the Ministry of Emergency Situations noted. An acetone spill was recorded at the scene of the incident, adds the Mash Telegram channel.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
