Brisa’s CEO, António Pires de Lima, has already presented the Government with an alternative to prevent the loss of revenue from the end of tolls on the former Scut roads in the Interior and Algarve from reaching 200 million euros.
In an interview with Negócios and Antena1, the manager says that the impact of the measure already approved in Parliament by the opposition parties can be mitigated to 40 million, benefiting only local populations.
Pires de Lima points out that with this measure, Infraestruturas de Portugal will lose revenue of 200 million, which will have to be compensated by the State Budget, that is, by taxpayers.
In your opinion, through the technology from Via Verde and the use of gantries that already exist on roads covered by the end of tolls makes it possible to move forward with selective exemptions, so that only local populations benefit from the end of tolls.
Pires de Lima says he has already put this suggestion forward to the Government and intends to inform all other parties with seats in parliament at meetings to be held in September.
If the measure goes ahead as approved, he warns, those highways will be used indiscriminately, traffic will increase, quality will deteriorate and accident rates will rise.
