According to British media, Bristol Cars has hinted at a return to the scene in 2026, in time for its 80th anniversary.
Jason Wharton, chief executive of Bristol Cars, announced on social media the company’s vision “to revive Bristol Cars as a contemporary manufacturer for connoisseurs of luxury grand touring cars worldwide in time for the brand’s 80th anniversary”.
Although the first announcement suggested that Bristol Cars would be “a British electric vehicle company”, Wharton has since confirmed that all-electric powertrains will not be the only powertrain on offer in the future Bristol.
Responding to online commentary about electric and hybrid powertrains, as well as “fossil fuel” ones, he said they would come in “reverse order.”
A sketch was also published, possibly hinting at the company’s future design language. The image shows a car heavily inspired by the 411 from the seventies.
For now, there’s no word on where Bristol will source the powertrains.
According to Auto Express, there are also questions about the intellectual property rights of Bristol Cars. Back in 2021, Bristol Cars became insolvent and the liquidators stated: “We can categorically say that although (Jason Wharton) bought certain tools and spare parts at an auction of the company’s assets, he did not buy any intellectual property (IP ).”
