Britain wants to hire a negotiator to reset relations with the EU

The UK government is hiring a new negotiator to help “reset” relations with the EU, according to the BBC. According to the job announcement, the negotiator’s role will be to lead the government’s relationship with the European Union and negotiations with the EU “on key UK interests”, particularly on security, trade and border policy.

Earlier, Prime Minister Keir Starmer pledged to “reset” relations between the UK and the EU and promised to try to secure a better trade deal than the one negotiated by Boris Johnson at the end of 2020. However, the Prime Minister explained that the “reset” it does not mean reversing Brexit.

The new negotiator role is billed as “a senior position which will receive significant public scrutiny and political attention” in the job advert published online by the Cabinet Office. He will act as a “personal and important representative of the Prime Minister at international summits and meetings”. His salary will be between £153,000 and £200,000.
