British Ambassador to Latvia Paul Brummel visited Preili region

This was P. Brummel’s second official visit to the Preili region and the first to the city of Preili – the ambassador first came on August 15, 2023 to attend the Feast of the Ascension of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Aglona.

During the visit, the Ambassador met with representatives of the Preili Regional Duma and self-government, he was introduced to the statistical data of the Preili Territory, the areas of education, youth work, entrepreneurship, non-governmental organizations, social services, culture and tourism. In addition, the British Ambassador to Latvia was briefed on the development priorities of the Preili region in the long term.

Particular attention was paid to the work of self-government until 2030 to address issues of energy efficiency and climate neutrality. The active participation of municipal institutions of the Preili region and societies in the projects of the British Council representation in Latvia was discussed. In addition, a number of issues related to the administrative-territorial reform of 2021 and the impact of the international situation on Latvia and the Preili Region were discussed at the meeting.

P. Brummel has been the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Latvia since 16 July 2021. Before that, he was ambassador to Romania, Barbados, and even earlier to Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, and also represented his country in Italy and Pakistan.
