Istanbul Public Security Branch Directorate officers took HBK’s statement after the theft that occurred on August 17.
He said he had the money stolen when he had an accident
It was learned that HBK told the police that he was involved in the accident on Adnan Menderes Boulevard in Fatih while he was taking 250 thousand dollars, which he had bought from a currency exchange office in the Grand Bazaar, to a textile company in Zeytinburnu.
Claiming that he was taken to Bayrampaşa State Hospital by ambulance while unconscious, HBK claimed that when he regained consciousness in the hospital, he had his cousin check the bag full of money in the vehicle, but after the accident they realized that the money had been stolen.
Camera footage reveals the truth
Suspicious of HBK’s contradictory statements, the police examined the camera footage. The footage showed HBK taking money from the exchange office, then entering the Nuruosmaniye Mosque restroom and meeting his brother SK in the restroom. When S.K came out of the restroom, he was seen with bulges on his waist.
HBK, who was then detained in Esenler, confessed to his crime. It was learned that HBK said that he committed the theft with his brother SK, making it look like an accident, that he spent some of the money, and that the remaining part was with S.K., who was in Samsun.
They were arrested
SK was also caught at home with 210 thousand dollars in an operation conducted by Samsun Provincial Police Department officers. The two brothers, whose procedures at the police station were completed, were arrested by the judicial authorities to which they were referred.
