During the podium discussion of the event called “Home in Budapest”, the head of the ministry praised the security of the Hungarian capital, which, according to him, is highly valued by visitors from abroad.
And the European events of the past period, for example the football match in the Netherlands or the football match that did not dare to be held in Belgium, all show that from this point of view Budapest, and indeed the whole of Hungary, is quite exceptional in Europe
he said. He then added that he could say one area in which he has experienced a negative change recently, and that is public cleanliness.
As I recall, four or five years ago it didn’t happen very often that the city would be littered on, say, Sunday morning, which comes after Saturday night
he said. He also touched on the fact that in other cities they were able to solve the creation of bicycle lanes better, in such a way that they did not restrict car traffic.
So maybe it would be worth thinking about this here because it is not absolutely necessary for motorists and cyclists to see each other as enemies, but this could be done in a cultured way, side by side, because one day a bike rider can be a car driver the next day
he said. Then, when asked what he particularly likes to show his foreign guests in Budapest, he answered that he likes to take them to the Puskás Arena, where many of his “colleagues are transformed into teenage football fans in no time”.
The effect we can achieve there is quite exceptional. So I take all such events to Puskás
he added. He also singled out the Children’s Railway, the cable car and the Erzsébet Lookout, as well as the Bozsik Stadium and its surroundings as emblematic locations for him, where most of his memories of Budapest are linked as a Honvéd supporter. Péter Szijjártó then believed that the culture of hospitality is beginning to fade from the Western world.
The love for the guest, the respect for the guest, the desire to amaze the guest is much stronger in the cultures to the east than in the regions to the west.
he said.
And I think we try to keep our eastern origins (…) from this point of view, because obviously this is also the reason why those who come from places where this culture has already disappeared, are happy to come here to experience how good it was when they were there that’s how it was,” he underlined. “I think we are at the forefront of the world in terms of the culture of hospitality
he continued. He also mentioned that he only brings gifts related to Ferenc Puskás to his foreign partners, because when he became minister ten years ago, he completely replaced the gift store.
Everyone knows that he is Puskás. So I haven’t been anywhere in the world so far, where they didn’t immediately say Puskás, natürlich or of course
he declared.
Puskás gifts work and are loved, and I’ll say it again, Puskás, Hungary, here the association is completely natural
he added.
