The patent and trademark agency Budde Schou has just published their latest annual accounts, which are characterized by growth.
In particular, increased customer focus and cases at the new European joint patent court have lifted the result.
The Patent and Trademark Office Budde Schou have just published their latest accounts. The result shows a gross profit of DKK 30 million, which corresponds to an increase of almost 7 percent compared to the previous year. At the same time, the year’s result increased by 15 percent to DKK 4.5 million.
Budde Schou has more than 100 years of experience with patent protection, and according to Jesper Mark Wenzel and Jan Sørensen, who are both partners in the company, there are several noteworthy reasons for the financial progress.
– The result that we can present shows that across the business we are continually getting better at meeting customers and their individual needs. In the past year, we have also managed to attract strong new forces to the house. A high level of competence is paramount in our industry, and the fact that we have succeeded in this is really acknowledged by our customers, says Jesper Mark Wenzel and continues:
– Throughout 2023 and further into 2024, we have simultaneously optimized our workflows as a result of, among other things, a focus on our IT systems and the use of AI. This has contributed to the fact that we now spend significantly fewer resources on administrative tasks, which frees up important time that our employees can instead spend on things that are central to the customers.
UPC cases maintain growth
In 2023, the European Common Patent Court – called the UPC – became a reality. The new court is an enhanced cooperation under the EU. Budde Schou is already involved in concrete cases at the court, which has raised the annual result even further.
– We have been involved in the first cases that Danish companies have started in the European system. This has given our advisers a unique expertise under the aegis of UPC. One of our specialties has always been the handling of conflict cases within IP, and thanks to the cases in the European joint patent court, we have been able to consolidate that part of the business, says Jan Sørensen, and adds:
– Even though the cases have not yet been concluded, they will set a precedent for future cases and how the applicable rules must be understood going forward. It has therefore been very essential for us to be part of this process from the start.
Business-critical cases in focus
In order to position Budde Schou as the customers’ preferred business partner and as an attractive workplace in the coming years, as well as to strengthen the financial results, the patent office will maintain a strong focus on professional expertise and high customer satisfaction.
– Our overall goal is to continue to be the most skilled patent and trademark agency in the industry, so that we can attract the most skilled specialists and increase the amount of clients. At the same time, we strive to be the ones you go to when things really get hot, especially when it comes to the more business-critical matters, says Jesper Mark Wenzel.
