Light Gauge Steel Framing (LGSF) steel structures are the best choice for a new building, because in addition to quality, precision and durability, it is a technology that enables very fast construction. In Estonia, LGSF constructions are manufactured by the production company Ecolit Estonia OÜ, which belongs to the global Ecolit group together with sister companies from America, Spain, England, Ireland and the United Emirates.
He adds that LGSF technology is not yet well known on the Estonian market, but it has several advantages over other building materials. “Wood is flammable and tends to “play” with the change of seasons, in addition, there are strong fire safety requirements for house construction when using wood. Metal structures are heavy and require welding. When pouring concrete, the right air temperature is important and it has a long drying time. However, the production of steel structures is fast, the fastening rivets are very strong, similar to airplanes and submarines. In addition, it is an environmentally friendly, fireproof and highly precise construction technology.”
Ecolit offers customers the opportunity to assemble their building structures themselves. For example, if there is a desire to quickly get a strong and durable outdoor kitchen, the factory provides precise instructions on how to assemble the elements. Since the constructions are light in weight, it can be done without special machines.
Choi states that there are many questions about rusting, but since the steel structures are coated with a special corrosion protection layer, there can be no worries about this. In addition, the constructions are very well insulated and have noise-absorbing properties, because with the help of new technology, noise-absorbing light concrete is placed between two steel layers for insulation. “Thanks to this, our framework becomes similar to the construction of stone houses, which is strong and, among other things, also protected from rodents. Ecolit produces and sells constructions, but with the help of partners we also offer a complete solution in the form of ready-made houses – on our website you can also find the prices of constructions for buildings of different sizes.”
As it is a new technology, it is currently possible to show the reference to potential customers only in Tartu. “Our customers are mostly from outside Estonia, most of our production has so far gone to Latvia, Lithuania, Spain and Portugal, where people are already more familiar with this technology,” Choi lists.
LGSF constructions allow the construction of up to six-story buildings, but at the moment the certificate allowing this exists in England, but not in Estonia. Ecolit is currently applying for a similar certificate in the European Union. “The possibilities are wide with this technology, it all depends on the customer’s wishes and the project, Choi introduces. “The posts, or contact points with the ground, are 4-6 meters away. It is possible to combine steel with heavy metal and then you can already make larger buildings, for example production and warehouse buildings. We have engineers, technology and production and, if necessary, assembly. The new construction technology weighs about a third of that of traditional buildings and can be erected in half the construction time because most of the components are manufactured off-site, allowing assembly and production to take place simultaneously.”
