How annoying is it when the power/button or a volume control on your phone no longer works? You can have these repaired, but in the meantime we have a solution for you, so that you can continue to use your smartphone.
Help, a button on your smartphone no longer works! What now? Don’t worry, because Android has a handy function built in to help you. The so-called accessibility button is intended for people who have difficulty pressing physical buttons on a phone, but also works great as an aid if one is broken. You set it up as follows:
We tested this tip on a Nothing and Samsung smartphone. Menus may be called something different on your device.
- Open the Settings app on your Android smartphone;
Now scroll down.
- Open the ‘Accessibility’ menu;
Scroll down again.
- Click on ‘Accessibility menu’ and flip the switch.
On Samsung smartphones this is called the ‘Help Menu’.
If all goes well, a shortcut will now appear on your screen. Clicking on it will reveal various icons that mimic the functions of physical buttons, such as ‘Lock Screen’, ‘Volume Down’, ‘Volume Up’ and more. Click on this and your phone will perform that action.
You can press and hold the shortcut and move it to a location where it will be least in the way. On Samsung phones, you can even change what function is on the shortcut key in the settings. To do this, go to ‘Assist menu’, ‘Select assistive menu items’ and delete everything except your intended shortcut.
As a Samsung user, there is another handy way to add a shortcut to your smartphone and it may be a little less in your way. You can add an extra button to the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen, if you use it. You set this up via the Good Lock app, which you can download from the Galaxy Store.
Download de Samsung Good Lock-app in de Galaxy Store
Open the Good Lock app and download Nav Star. Then open this option, go to ‘Buttons’ and turn the switch to ‘ON’. Press ‘New configuration’ and go to ‘Button layout’ at the bottom of the screen. Click ‘Add button’ and choose the shortcut you want to add. Then tap ‘Done’ and ‘Save’ and your new taskbar is ready to use.
