BVB embarrassed in friendly match in Thailand

Borussia Dortmund is currently hoping to gain PR points in an important growth market during its trip to Asia. However, BVB has now embarrassed itself to the core during a friendly match in Bangkok, Thailand.

In the duel with the local first division team BG Pathum United, a Dortmund B team suffered a heavy 0:4 defeat. Melvyn Lorenzen (14th) and Teerasil Dangda (44th) put the underdogs in the lead before half-time.

Jaroensak Wonggorn, who came on as a substitute at half-time, finally pushed the score to a memorable level with a brace (65th, 88th).

Dortmund had more of the ball throughout the game, but ultimately were rarely able to create clear chances. Pathum United, on the other hand, almost always punished defensive lapses mercilessly.

Coach Nuri Sahin gave many young players from the U23 team a chance to prove themselves in Thailand. But at least in the first half, experienced players such as Niklas Süle, Julian Ryerson, Felix Nmecha, Karim Adeyemi, Julian Brandt and Youssoufa Moukoko were also on the pitch.

BVB travels further to Japan

BVB left for Thailand on Friday evening. Sahin’s eleven appeared tired for long stretches.

For the Dortmund players, the friendly match followed an intensive training session on Saturday evening. After the eleven-hour journey to Bangkok, the BVB pros trained at around 8:45 p.m. in temperatures still 30 degrees and tropical, humid air. On Monday, the club will travel on to Japan.

In Osaka, the Champions League finalists have the chance to correct the mistake they made in their first friendly match. The second and final test in the Far East will take place on Wednesday (12:15 p.m. German time) against Cerezo Osaka.

The defeat against Pathum United was not the first setback for BVB in the current preparation. Even before leaving for Asia, they had only managed a 1:1 draw against Erzgebirge Aue on Wednesday. After three preparation games, the Bundesliga club has only won once.

At the start of the test match season, Dortmund beat a team made up of amateur footballers and influencers with a fitting 7-1 score.
