By 2030, 200 times more hydrogen devices should be produced than today

In the green technology and innovation program of Äripää radio, we investigate how much hydrogen is currently produced in Estonia, what it is used for and what the future expectations are.

Kaarel Kuusk, head of the company’s hydrogen projects, talks about Eesti Energia’s hydrogen projects. Henrik Hal, CEO and co-founder of H2Electro, will introduce the hydrogen technology market and Estonian innovation.

Kaarel Kuusk states that the large-scale introduction of hydrogen in Estonia requires infrastructure, which is currently lacking. “We have spoken with Elering, the manager of the Estonian gas system, who is planning a hydrogen pipeline in this region in cooperation. Of course, the deadlines for the completion of the pipeline are quite far in the future. There is an official version that says 2030, but that is not likely – we are rather talking about 2040,” said Kuusk .

He added that it is in the distant future, but it is needed. There is also a need for additional domestic branches to the main route through Estonia, which would take the hydrogen to where it is consumed, i.e. mainly in Ida-Virumaa, as an example of Estonia.

How hydrogen helps to reform the shale oil industry and why Estonian ceramic catalyst elements are better than others, you can already hear from the show. The “Cleantech” show is hosted by Mart Valner.

The program is supported by the Estonian Green Technology Association, Sunly AS and the Center for Environmental Investments.
