At the beginning of the year, BYD’s first privately owned cargo ship – named Explorer No.1 – started its maiden voyage to transport its cars to Europe. Yesterday, Guangzhou Shipyard International launched the second dual-fuel Ro-Ro ship built on behalf of the Chinese company.
The name of this BYD Hefei, which comes from the city where one of the manufacturing plants is located. It is capable of carrying 7,000 vehicles, while using a dual-fuel propulsion system of natural gas (LNG) and fuel oil to meet the loading requirements for both internal combustion engine cars and electric vehicles.
The vessel is 199.9 meters long, 38 meters wide, 9 meters draft and has a service speed of 18.5 knots (34 km/h), with BYD considering continuing to name its ships after the cities where its factories are located .
BYD plans to put eight Ro-Ro ships on the oceans within the next two years.
