ByteDance close its music streaming service TikTok Music globally in November. The Spotify and Apple Music competitor was available in Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, Singapore and Mexico.
TikTok Music was once part of Resso, which first launched in India and Indonesia in 2019 and later expanded to Brazil.
In 2023, ByteDance converted Resso users in Brazil and Indonesia to TikTok Music users. Shortly after, TikTok Music expanded to Singapore, Australia, and Mexico.
Apparently, ByteDance had expected a huge popularity, but that didn’t happen. TikTok has also had a rocky relationship with the music industry of late. Earlier this year, Universal Music Group pulled its music catalog from the service after disagreements over royalties. The dispute was eventually settled.
