BPI should distribute dividends with a payout of 50% to 60% of net profit between 2025 and 2027, predicts the CEO of Caixabank. And the growth of the Portuguese financial institution will be organic: Gonzalo Gortazár ruled out the acquisition scenario in Portugal.
In Madrid, at the presentation of Caixabank’s strategic plan for the period 2025-2027, and asked about the forecast for dividends to be paid by BPI in the coming years, Gonzalo Gortazár stated that “it won’t be much different from what Caixabank gives to its own shareholders”. On a strategic level, the shareholder of the Portuguese financial institution aims to distribute 40% to 60% of the results himself by 2027.
The CEO of the Portuguese institution’s Catalan shareholder added, however, that the dividends will be decided “always respecting BPI’s solvency and capital ratios and ensuring that BPI has the capital to grow”. The capital to be distributed will only be calculated after these criteria are guaranteed, he assured. BPI distributed 517 million euros in 2024 relative to 2023 – a value close to the bank’s net result – and predicts that next year the figure will not be much different.
Caixabank’s CEO also once again rejected a purchasing scenario in Portugal. Asked if he is considering looking at Novo Banco or even BCP, Gortazár reaffirmed that the evolution he expects is organic.
This growth, he explained, also rules out the possibility of the bank facing additional staff departures. “There is no plan at BPI to reduce, but to continue to grow,” he said.
