California confirms first case of mpox Clade 1 infection

• A case of mpox, the Clade 1 variant, has been confirmed in California, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced on Saturday.
• This is the first case of infection with this strain detected in the United States, according to Reuters.

According to the CDC, the case was diagnosed in a person who recently traveled from East Africa. The person was treated shortly after his return to the US at a local medical facility and discharged, according to doctors.

“Since then, the individual has been isolated at home, is not receiving specific treatment for mpox, and his symptoms are improving,” the CDC said.
