The first cycle of the program has already shown exceptional results in the examples of the Public Enterprise “Tara National Park” and the Tourist Organization of Sjenica. The goal is to continue with this trend, raising standards in the management of protected areas by supporting projects that promote transparency and active involvement of citizens.

The program is open to all managers of protected areas within Serbia who can present projects focused on the improvement and preservation of nature. The projects should be implemented within five months, from the signing of the contract to mid-summer 2025.

A variety of activities are supported, including:

  • Improvement of digital tools for communication (websites, platforms, applications) and improvement of physical infrastructure for communication
  • Campaigns to raise citizens’ awareness of the need for cooperation on nature protection, species and habitat preservation
  • Trainings, workshops, debates and other public events that improve the exchange of information and cooperation between managers of protected areas and citizens, as well as the organization of educational and volunteer camps, i.e. volunteer actions that contribute to solving specific problems in the protected area
  • Joint implementation of protection measures with citizens
  • Networking with the media (local TV, radio, electronic media) for the purpose of regularly informing the public about the work of the management of the protected area
  • Drafting of internal policies that affect and regulate the transparency of management (e.g. code of ethics, communication strategy, reporting plan to citizens, etc.)

For the year 2025, it is planned to allocate US$10,000 to support at least two projects, with a maximum amount of up to US$5,000 per project.

The deadline for submitting project applications is November 25, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.

The application process, all details and instructions can be found on the website “Young researchers of Serbia”.
