Canon launches new imagePROGRAF TZ and TX large format printers with improved print quality

Canon today launches additional devices from the successful imagePROGRAF TZ and TX series – imagePROGRAF TZ-32000 and imagePROGRAF TX-4200/TX-3200. These five-color printers are ideal for printing in computer-aided design (CAD) and geographic information system (GIS) applications, as well as poster printing. These new models will find applications across a range of disciplines, including architecture, engineering, construction and manufacturing (AEC&M), print service providers (PSPs) and public institutions. All models offer increased productivity, provide better quality poster printing in vivid colors and can be purchased with an optional scanner(1).

Printer imagePROGRAF TZ-32000 it is ideal for printing large volumes of CAD drawings at high speed, thus meeting the requirements for high productivity of printing drawings in the AEC&M segment. The printer with a diagonal of 36″ achieves a printing speed of 4 A1 pages per minute(2)which is the highest print speed of the entire imagePROGRAF series. Productivity is boosted by a new and improved easy paper loading process and a top output tray (TDT) for continuous printing that can stack up to 100 CAD drawings of various sizes or up to 10 posters. A dual roll configuration input allows users to load media less often and automatically switch between two media sizes when printing different formats. This is ideal for complex CAD applications. Production is maximized thanks to faster paper loading and unique hot-swappable ink tanks that enable continuous printing.

Printers imagePROGRAF TX-4200/TX-3200 satisfy a wide range of printing needs, including CAD drawings, GIS and also posters used by companies in the distribution and retail sectors. While the imagePROGRAF TX-4200 is 44″ wide, the TX-3200 is 36″. Both models print faster than their predecessors, up to 3.3 A1 pages per minute(3). Peak productivity is achieved with a range of features such as input for two media rolls(4) with the option of quick replacement and easy paper insertion.

Improved features for printing with high resolution and brighter colors

All new TZ and TX series models bring a range of improvements including sharper lines and color calibration for more vibrant and consistent colours. These advanced features enable accurate printing of detailed CAD drawings, from line drawings to maps, ideal for both the AEC&M sector and public institutions. The newly developed image processing technology makes the most of the improved color properties of the ink and reproduces rich and bright colors. Using Canon’s latest magenta ink, prints compare to previous models(5) more alive. The novelty allows printing more expressive and brighter colors even on ordinary paper. Pigment inks are durable and protect against smudging, so prints are also ideal for outdoor use.

Higher productivity and efficiency

The new imagePROGRAF printers offer several features that help increase productivity and efficiency. All models feature an advanced easy paper loading system that automatically recognizes the width and type of paper and estimates its remaining amount. It speeds up the paper feeding process and shortens the time for setting up the paper roll(6) roughly 30% compared to previous models. In addition, high image quality is maintained thanks to the ink detection system, which automatically optimizes the ink placement position by regularly monitoring the ink output. High quality is also ensured by the color calibration function, which automatically corrects color deviations at the output caused by individual differences in print heads and their aging. As a result, the time required for printing is saved and equipment downtime is reduced. This allows users to quickly and efficiently produce large numbers of drawings and posters.

Designed with the environment in mind

All new TZ and TX printer models have been designed to be more energy efficient than their predecessors – the TZ-32000 uses 29% less power and the TX-4200/TX-3200 uses 25% less power in operation. Printer packaging is also environmentally friendly, as it does not use expanded polystyrene (EPS). Both the TZ and TX printer series are registered in the United States as “EPEAT” Gold products under the EPEAT International Ecolabel, established by the Global Electronics Council (GEC), a non-profit electronic product evaluation organization.

Designed for peace of mind

The imagePROGRAF TZ and TX range of printers offer a range of security features, from encrypted communication and secure PIN printing to an advanced authentication process and secure hard drive wipe to protect sensitive information so they can access the printer, create prints and manage data storage only the right people.

Mathew Faulkner, Marketing and Innovation Director, Wide Format Printing Group, Canon EMEAto which he adds: “The new imagePROGRAF TZ and TX printers expand our imagePROGRAF range, which is a complete solution for large format CAD/GIS and poster printing, providing our customers in the AEC&M market, print service providers and public institutions with the productive and reliable printers they need. Thanks to improved printing capabilities, these new models deliver high-quality, accurate and sharp CAD/GIS prints with vivid colors that make technical drawings easier to read, and thanks to pigment inks that don’t smudge, this applies even on the construction site and when exposed to various weather conditions.”

The new imagePROGRAF models will be on sale at accredited Canon partners or directly at Canon from October 1.

Additional information about the imagePROGRAF TZ-32000 and imagePROGRAF TX-4200/TX-3200 can be found at:

(1) The optional Z36 scanner is manufactured by Global Scanning.

(2) A1 wide, uncoated paper, Fast Economy mode.

(3) A1 wide, drawing on plain paper, fastest print setting.

(4) The second unit of the role is optional.

(5) The predecessor of the TZ-32000 is the imagePROGRAF TZ-30000 (launched in May 2021) and the predecessor of the TX-4200/3200 is the imagePROGRAF TX-4100/3100 (launched in February 2021).

(6) For the purposes of the Canon paper loading process described here, these are the following: for the TZ-32000, this is the time it takes for the operator to replace the paper rolls in the printer in the feed section of the main unit and close the roll cover so that the printer is ready to continue printing; for the TX line, this is the time from when the paper roll is inserted into the feeding part of the main unit until the time when the printer is ready to print.
