Buying budget headphones can sometimes be more difficult than getting a premium model. You can usually assume that if you pay above a certain price, you’re getting high quality (with a few exceptions, of course). However, when you’re looking for more affordable options, it can be a real lottery. How do you know if what you are buying is really worth even that lower price? You have to wade through a sea of cheap knockoffs and extra features that often don’t add to performance (which is why many cheap models add RGB lighting without any real need). But every now and then you come across budget headphones like the Canyon BTHS-3 Wireless Headsetwhich fulfill all basic needs for their price.
For around 25 euros, these headphones are a pretty solid value. The design is simple, without unnecessary accessories, which could turn off some users. However, the headphones are light, comfortable and can be folded for easy transport. Although I’m not a big fan of brighter headphones, the minimalist design in light beige looks nice. Of course, you can find them in black color if that option suits you better.
The pads on the cups are comfortable, even after prolonged wear. The standard 40mm speakers provide a clear sound, although the bass can be a little weak, but it is not very noticeable when playing games, watching videos or series. There’s no companion app, which means you can’t adjust EQ levels other than a few presets, which I haven’t noticed make much of a difference. What you hear is what you get, but the ear pads provide solid isolation, even though the headphones lack active noise cancellation (ANC).
Since there is no application, all controls are located on the cups themselves. There are no touch sensitive controls, just clickable pause, start and volume buttons. They have an integrated microphone, which means there’s nothing to turn on or off, but that means the microphone quality isn’t top-notch. It’s not too metallic, but it will pick up a fair amount of ambient sounds in a noisy environment. The 20Hz to 20kHz frequency range makes them work well for gaming, and I had no problems with audio lag.
You can connect via the standard audio jack or Bluetooth 5.1, and the sound quality is pretty consistent either way. However, the battery suffers a bit, offering about 15 hours of operation on a full charge. This is quite enough for everyday use, but you will need to charge them often.
For its price, Canyon BTHS-3 headset they represent very good value. They may lack the features of higher priced models, but they deliver quality where it matters most, which is more than can be said for many models in the same price segment. You might decide to pay a bit more for a model as it is JLAB Studio Pro ANCbut if you’re on a tight budget, these headphones are absolutely worth considering.
