Car sales in the EU fell sharply in August

BRUSSELS – Vehicle sales in the European Union (EU) fell sharply in August, data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) showed.

In August, only 644,000 new cars were registered in the EU, 18.3 percent less than in the same month last year.

In July, sales stagnated, after a modest growth of 4.3 percent in June, which marked the end of a four-month period of weaker results, reports Mina.

In August, all four leading markets recorded a decline, and sales in Germany decreased the most, by 27.8 percent. France is also close, with 24.3 percent fewer registered new cars than the year before. Italy also recorded a double-digit decline, of 13.4 percent. Sales in Spain decreased the most, by 6.5 percent.

The European battery electric car market fell sharply in August, as much as 43.9 percent, ACEA calculated, after a 10.8 percent drop in July. Sales in Germany and France, the two largest European markets, fell by 68.8 and 33.1 percent, respectively.

In such conditions, the share of battery-powered electric cars on the European market in August was reduced to 14 percent, from 21 percent in the same month last year.

In the first eight months, the European car market grew by 1.4 percent compared to the same period last year, with 7.2 million new vehicles registered.

The European battery electric car market fell by 8.3 percent for the same period, with 902,000 new cars registered. Biznis.rs
