Car was not in legal condition when 13-year-old cyclist was killed in traffic

The driver’s seat was positioned so that visibility was reduced, and nine scent emitters hung from the inside driver’s mirror.

A 20-year-old’s car was not in legal condition when he hit a 13-year-old cycling boy last August, who died.

This was determined by the Court in Viborg on Thursday, where the 20-year-old from Hobro was sentenced to daily fines.

At the trial, he was found guilty of manslaughter and of not keeping a sufficient distance to the side while overtaking.

The man was also convicted of driving a car that was not in legal condition, the Central and West Jutland Police write in a press release on Friday.

The driver’s seat was arranged so that a comfortable driving position could not be achieved, and so the view over the instrument panel was reduced, just as there were nine scent emitters hanging from the inside driver’s mirror.

The man was punished with 20 daily fines of DKK 400 – i.e. a total of DKK 8,000.

In addition, he has had his driving license suspended conditionally, which means that he must keep the driving license if he passes a controlling driving test – both a theoretical and practical test,

The accident took place on 26 August, when the 13-year-old boy was cycling along Hobrovej in the direction of Møldrup. Here he was hit by the 20-year-old driver, who immediately called for help, but the boy’s life could not be saved.
