There are quite a few environmental apps out there, and Carbon Footprint and CO2 Tracker is one of the most popular. But how does this release, only available on the Google Play store for Android devices, work and what features does it have? On GreenStyle we have tested and reviewed this application, with some interesting data on how it works and on tips for a sustainable life.
If the idea of keeping track of our carbon footprint doesn’t bother us, Carbon Footprint & CO2 Tracker is one of the apps to keep on your phone. The download is available for Android devices, on the stores of more than 100 countries. And with over 50 thousand people who have chosen it, this release is among the most popular on the theme of sustainability and the environment.
A topic debated internationally, as far as environmental protection is concerned, is in fact the fight against greenhouse gas emissions, such as CO2. But if there are objectives and methods aimed at large industries, we citizens can also contribute to reducing our ecological impact.
There are in fact lifestyle choices tailored to individuals and families, which can be virtuous and beneficial for the health of the planet. The first step, however, is to understand how much our daily habits can increase or decrease carbon dioxide emissions. And, consequently, what to do to improve the condition.
The Carbon Footprint app helps us do just that, that is, measure the weight of our mobility and food choices in terms of CO2, but also give us suggestions for reducing emissions. At GreenStyle we tested this application and reviewed it for our readers.
The Carbon Footprint app, or Capture, is certainly not difficult to use and is intuitive: the first step is to select your lifestyle habits in the book-like screens. You start with the means of transport you choose most frequently and select the hours of daily travel. But there is also a section dedicated to travel.
Finally, we are asked to specify what type of diet we follow, choosing between six different options, depending on the amount of animal proteins in the diet. It should be remembered that meat and intensive farming are considered responsible for high greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
On the contrary, to contain what is considered one of the major causes of global warmingstudies show that vegetarian and vegan diets are a possible solution. The next step, after selecting the diet plan followed, is to check our overall ecological footprint.
But Capture also proposes to keep the data updated, using GPS to keep a daily track of the movements and measure once again the carbon dioxide emissions. The data, as the developers reassure, does not remain in memory and, to protect the privacy of the users, is deleted after 24 hours.
Downloading the Carbon Footprint and CO2 Tracker app is free on Google Play store, available for devices with operating system from Android 5.0 and later. The application weight is light, just under 17 MB and the operation is simple and intuitive. But let’s see what you can do:
- You can create an account with your data on mobility and eating habits to have an immediate track of your carbon dioxide emissions.
- Based on the results, monthly targets can be set to reduce emissions and light in the area. Learn Tips for a more sustainable life
- You can allow the application to access GPS to have a more efficient tracking of movements and an accurate calculation of daily emissions.
- From the section Remove you can choose offset projects to join, to improve your carbon footprint
- There is also the possibility to interact with the Community global from the dedicated section
If we had to give a score to Carbon Footprint it would be good, since the app is fast and easy for everyone, even if the language limit can discourage someone. In fact, the pages are in English and this can make it less easy to use for those who do not speak it. And it is not available on the Apple Store, where there are similar applications.
But overall the app does what it’s supposed to and so we consider it a good fit.
