PS MEP Carla Tavares won this Friday the PS FAUL (Lisbon Urban Area Federation) mid-term elections with 71% of the votes and will be the new president of the structure, having beaten Miguel Prata Roque who got 29%, he said to Lusa official source. According to the same source, Carla Tavares obtained 2402 votes (71%) and Miguel Prata Roque 991 (29%), with the universe of activists with electoral capacity being around six thousand people.

The midterm elections that took place this afternoon and evening in the various sections – and which were only for the presidency as the other federative bodies remain – determined that Carla Tavares will be Ricardo Leão’s successor in the presidency of the Federation of the Urban Area of Lisbon (FAUL) of the PS.

Ricardo Leão resigned as president of FAUL following weeks of controversy due to his positions on the evictions of people who had been convicted of contempt and benefited from social housing.

The 54-year-old socialist MEP left the presidency of the Amadora City Council last year following the election for the European Parliament, when she occupied sixth place on the PS list for the European elections in June.

The mayor of Loures, who this Friday announced his re-candidacy in this year’s municipal elections, resigned from FAUL at the beginning of November following the controversy with the approval of a recommendation from Chega in the municipality related to evictions in municipal housing.
