World number two Carlos Alcaraz was surprisingly knocked out in the last 16 of the €5,950,575 ATP Masters 1,000 tournament in Paris.
Alcaraz was defeated in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, by the French Ugo Humbert, in a match played on Thursday.
Humbert (ranked 18th ATP) managed a sensational first set, which he won in just 26 minutes, and then lost the second set (3-6), before winning 7-5 in the decider and ensured the victory, after two hours and 15 minutes of play.
“It’s the most beautiful victory in my career and it’s the best moment I’ve experienced on a tennis court,” said the 26-year-old French player at the end.
Neither Jannik Sinner nor Novak Djokovic are participating in the Paris Masters.
