Casey Stoner failed to win the Champions Charity Race in Italy.
EICMA in Milan – one of the world’s largest two-wheeler fairs – gathered racing legends this weekend in a competition that had a humanitarian character.
Stoner was the main attraction, but was defeated at the semi-final stage.
The elimination race race format matched drivers one-on-one. Stoner defeated Randy Mamola in the first round, while Marco Melandri defeated Loris Capirossi.
Troy Bayliss and Carlos Cheka also advanced to the next stage. Bayliss defeated Melandri. Stoner fell off his motorcycle in the semi-finals against Cheka and ended up losing.
Bayliss then defeated Cheka in the “road” final, qualifying for the final showdown with the winner of the off-road category.
Christophe Purcell, who won the off-road category, defeated Cheka to become the final winner of this interesting event.
But for many MotoGP fans, it was a treat to see the heroes of the past make a brief return to the competitive environment.
We’re especially referring to Stoner, a two-time MotoGP champion, who has often kept his distance from the sport since his retirement. Riding on the Beta Special Flat Track project adorned with the number 27, he managed to recall the old glory years.
