Casio’s first smart ring has innovative features

Although the body of this tiny watch is only an inch in size, Casio managed to squeeze a retro six-segment LCD display; which can display hours, minutes and seconds. The ring also includes three function buttons that can control additional functions such as displaying the date or time in a different time zone and a timer.

On the clock screen there is even an option to turn on a light and an alarm function that will flash the screen instead of playing a sound. It is powered by a battery that Casio says it will keep the waterproof watch running for about two yearsbut can also be easily replaced when necessary.

To accurately recreate the design and intricate details of the larger digital watches on which the ring is based, Casio says this wearable is manufactured as a single piece using a metal injection molding process that starts with powdered metal. As a result, unlike the Timex watch ring which has an elastic band to accommodate different users, the CRW-001-1JR is permanently sized at 10.5 in measurement climates for US users. If your fingers are smaller than that, Casio includes two spacers to improve the fit. Conversely, if your fingers are larger than that, you’ll have to find some other way to check the time.

Last year, Casio launched a collection of ring watches with designs inspired by some of the company’s most iconic digital watches of the past 50 years. Unfortunately, none of these were functional, so it’s nice to see Casio follow up with a ring watch that actually works.
