Cdiscount has unveiled its first barometer of “more responsible products”. The repairability criterion and reconditioned products are increasingly appealing to the French. Sales of more responsible products represented an average of 22% of the e-retailer’s sales in the second quarter of the year.
The society Cdiscount presented its first barometer of “more responsible products”. The company plans to publish one on sales trends concerning the most responsible products favored by the French, every quarter.
This approach is made possible thanks to the “more responsible” label implemented on the site in 2020. According to the barometer, sales of more responsible products represented an average of 22% in the second quarter of 2024. They stood at 19.8% of Cdiscount’s activity in April, 22.4% in May, 23.8% in June this year. repairability criterion is now the one that most appeals to the French, ahead of the refurbished products. Moreover, sales of the most repairable products represented 39 % responsible sales in the second quarter of the year.
An increasingly “green” awareness among consumers
Refurbished products (around 36% of sales in the second quarter of 2024) and certified products, which are less energy-intensive and Made in France (a little less than 30%) have for their part experienced stability in their data compared to those observed last year at the same period.
Since the launch of the salessales of more responsible products currently represent nearly 25 % of Cdiscount’s activity. The top responsible sales include: refurbished smartphones as well as less energy-intensive washing machines offered by certain brands such as Bosch.
Caroline BordetCSR and quality director at Cdiscount, comments: “Beyond the pressing need to preserve their purchasing power, the French also want to consume responsibly. This is reflected in the upward trends that we have been observing for several months.“
Ranking of more responsible products
Among the most repairable products are: smartphones (1 in 3 in the second quarter of 2024), the broom vacuum cleaners (4 out of 10), and the making things (1 in 5). Smartphones are also in the ranking of second-life products (1 in 3 in the second quarter of 2024), which also includes laptop et connected objects (1 in 6 for both). Finally, the list of certified products shows that the canapés (1 of 4), and the mattress (1 in 10) are mostly sold.
