Prague – Former football goalkeeper Petr Čech is happy that the Czech goalkeeping school will have another representative in the English league after the transfer of Antonín Kinski from Slavia to Tottenham. The former star of the London clubs Chelsea and Arsenal believes that the new acquisition of the Roosters will suit the style of the team. Čech is convinced that Kinský will make his mark even at the young age of 21. The 42-year-old former national team goalkeeper discussed coming to Tottenham with a young goalkeeper, he said in a recording for the media from The Playbook House agency.
Cech worked at Chelsea from 2004 to 2015 and then played for Arsenal for four more years. “The Premier League is clearly the best league in the world. I’m glad that Tonda got the opportunity to sign with Tottenham and continue the Czech footprint in the best league in the world. It’s great not only for him, but for all of Czech football,” said Čech.
According to the legendary goalkeeper, who is currently in twelfth place in the English league table, Kinski’s style of play should suit him. Like Slavia, the “Roosters” try to combine from the goalkeeper.
“I think it could suit him because they play in such a way that uses his strengths. Which is a game with his feet. Tonda is also used to international football. The last six months in Slavia was mainly about concentration, about one or two interventions that he had to help the team. Plus the game, I think it will be a combination of everything in Tottenham,” said Cech.
“It is always important to be in a team that suits you. He has all the prerequisites for his engagement to be successful. Even if Tottenham are not where they want to be in the table this season, they are a traditional team in the Premier League that he’s trying for the Champions League and the top ranks. I think it’s a great choice. I believe he’ll do well and the engagement will suit him,” said the record holder in the number of starts for the Czech national team.
He himself headed to Chelsea when he was only a year older than Kinski. “I came into the Premier League at a similar age. I think it’s not about age, it’s about performance. We see players who are 16 or 17 years old playing in the Premier League. If they have the quality, they will get the opportunity and grab it by the scruff of the neck , that’s how they play. I think it’s the same with Tonda. It won’t be about his performance. If he’ll do well and keep his position in goal,” Cech reflected.
Kinský consulted him about the transfer to Tottenham. “Tonda and I talked about his engagement. I told him my opinion, but in my opinion he didn’t even need it. He is very lucky in that he has a great background at home. They have a great set up with dad Antonín Sr. and that helps him grow quickly in career. I’m just happy that he nodded at the offer and that the Czech goalkeeper school will have another representative in the Premier League,” said the Czech, who met Kinský the elder, for example, at the Euros in 2004.
Tottenham’s new goalkeeper could start as early as Wednesday in the League Cup against Liverpool. The London club’s number one Guglielmo Vicario was injured. “If he catches already against Liverpool, that is of course the coach’s decision. Maybe it is also the feeling of the player himself, how quickly he will fit into the team. Sometimes it is an advantage to spend some time with the team, but it may not be decisive. If he gets an opportunity in the match, in who will have absolutely nothing to lose, it can also be an advantage. In addition, the coach would show him that he has his trust,” added Čech.
