Grammy-winning singer John Legend said Joe Biden “deserved more than re-election, but time and age come for us all” in an Instagram post, before endorsing Kamala Harris to replace president on the list, according to Sky News.
Cher, in her characteristic way of posting on X, said: “I think it’s the only chance for (the US) to keep its democracy.”
Barbra Streisand, a Democrat supporter, wrote on X that “we should be grateful for the support of our democracy.”
Cardi B also gloated on X, referencing a video she posted on June 30. In that video, she said the Democratic Party was selfish for letting Biden, 81, run for re-election and that Harris should replace him.
Star Wars actor Mark Hamill, who in May nicknamed Joe Biden “Joe-bi-Wan-Kenobi,” said the president had “restored the honesty, dignity and integrity of the office” by dropping out.
Meanwhile, Bette Midler called Mr Biden a “true American patriot”.
She also called Republican presidential candidate Trump a “suck” for his response to Biden’s ad, in which he called Biden the “worst” president in US history.
Ariana Grande reacted on Instagram by posting Biden’s ad endorsing Harris as his replacement in the upcoming presidential election.
Singer Katy Perry posted a short video on her Instagram account in which she sings a line from her new single: “It’s a woman’s world and you’re lucky to live in it.”
Robert De Niro, who has supported Biden’s campaign in recent weeks, thanked him for his “act of skillful politics and selfless patriotism” in a statement to The Hill.
“Joe Biden is stepping aside to pave the way for another Democrat to become president because there is nothing more important to our country than the defeat of Donald Trump,” he said.
And actress Jamie Lee Curtis said she supports “wholeheartedly” Biden’s decision to retire, while at the same time endorsing Harris for the presidency.
