Centennial Auto-Industrial Group brings another Chinese brand to Portugal – Automobile

The century-old Auto-Industrial group has signed an agreement to be the exclusive importer of the Chinese brand Forthing for Portugal, the group founded in 1920 announced this Tuesday.

Forthing belongs to the Chinese group Dongfeng, one of the four giants of the Chinese automotive industry, and has been investing in electric or electrified models in recent years.

The import will be ensured by Solmotor, Lda., a company owned by the Auto-Industrial group.

“Over our more than 100 years of existence, the Auto-Industrial group has consolidated its position as one of the main players in the automotive sector in Portugal and intends with this new partnership to drive sustainable growth for the coming decades”, says, quoted in the press release, Alfredo Leite Santos, member of the board of directors of the group based in Coimbra and which closed last year with a turnover of over 300 million euros.

“Portugal is a country with a vast cultural heritage and an innovative attitude towards technology and sustainability. We see great potential and we are
excited to contribute to the growth and development of the automotive industry in Portugal”, says Patrick Wang, representative of the Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor group, also quoted in the note sent to the newsrooms.

The agreement comes at a time when Brussels has imposed tariffs on imports of Chinese electric vehicles.
