Centum General Hospital (Director Nam-cheol Park) was designated as an ‘Advanced Regenerative Medicine Implementation Institution’ by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the 17th. This will allow it to begin full-scale research and treatment in the field of advanced regenerative medicine.
According to the Advanced Regenerative Medicine Act, which will be implemented in February next year, some cell therapies that previously had to be received overseas will now be available domestically.
Advanced regenerative medicine uses human cells to regenerate or restore damaged human structures or functions, or to treat and prevent diseases. It is emerging as an alternative treatment for severe, rare, and incurable diseases, and cell therapy, gene therapy, and tissue engineering therapy are representative examples.
Prior to this, Centum General Hospital established and operated its own ‘Convergence Medicine Research Center’ based on advanced regenerative medicine since May.
Meanwhile, in Busan, Busan National University Hospital, Dong-A University Hospital, Busan Baek Hospital, Haeundae Baek Hospital, Kosin University Gospel Hospital, and Busan 2nd Port Hospital have been designated as ‘advanced regenerative medicine implementation centers’.
