AMD’s new graphics cards based on the RDNA 4 architecture have now been officially announced.
AMD presented the products at the currently ongoing CES 2025 fair. Those present were told at least AMD Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 9060 graphics cards. According to Reddit users, however, the occasion was marred by issues – such as audio issues.
An opportunity, apparently it was a disappointment for many, and not all expected things were heard. CEO Lisa Su’s absence was also perceived as a pity.
In the new collection, it is worth noting that its naming convention has changed to Nvidia’s. Instead of the name Radeon RX 9700, there will be a Radeon RX 9070.
AMD has targeted its new graphics cards as competitors to Nvidia’s current generation RTX 40 series. AMD has given up the competition against Nvidia’s new top models at the moment.
The new graphics cards come with new improvements such as optimized computing units, Supercharged AI Compute technology, improved ray tracing and better media encoding quality. The technologies utilize AMD’s 2nd generation artificial intelligence accelerators, 3rd generation ray tracing accelerators and 2nd generation AMD Radiance DisplayEngine. In connection with video cards, a new version of AMD’s FSR scaling technology is also coming. It is version FSR 4.
The graphics circuits of video cards are manufactured using a 4 nanometer process. Previous graphics circuits of the RDNA 3 architecture were manufactured with a 5 and 6 nanometer manufacturing process.
What is new in the design is that AMD has abandoned the MCM design. Instead, a monolithic design is used.
The Radeon RX 9070 XT and 9070 are coming to the market in the first quarter. The Radeon RX 9060 will go on sale later.
