CES 2025: Notebooks under the umbrella of ASUS ROG

The company sewed up the wrinkles of the ROG Strix Scar laptops and ROG Flow, which can also be skinned as a tablet, but the external VGA of the XG series did not escape development either.

At the CES held in Las Vegas, of course, ASUS was not lacking in novelties either, and also presented some notebooks that strengthen the portfolio of the ROG product line. The 2025 edition ROG Strix Scar comes with a 16- and 18-inch mini LED ROG Nebula HDR display, which in addition to the 16:10 aspect ratio has 2000 local dimming zones, 2.5K resolution, 240 Hz refresh rate, 1200 cd/m2and 100 percent DCI-P3 color space coverage. We have already seen the customizable AniMe Vision module installed on the cover of machines based on the latest Intel Core Ultra platform and equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 GPUs in the ROG Zephyrus series, but the designers did not forget about the Aura Sync lighting spanning the entire frame.

The configurations debuting in the second half of March can be requested with a maximum of 64 GB of SO-DIMM DDR5 memory ticking at an effective clock of 5600 MHz, while for SSDs working with the PCI Express 4.0 interface, the 4 TB RAID 0 array is the ceiling, and the the mentioned components can be easily replaced without tools (as can be seen above in the Facebook picture accompanying our article). Of course, support for the MUX switch or NVIDIA Advanced Optimus technology can also be unchecked, and cooling is provided by a thermal chamber system featuring three blower fans, sandwich aluminum ribs and Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal. A side note is that the backlit chiclet keyboard has a numeric pad.

The ROG Flow Z13, launched in February, is a 2-in-1 solution and, unlike its brand partner, is based on an AMD Ryzen AI MAX 395+ processor. The 13-inch iron, which can also be used as a tablet, has a Pantone-certified 180 Hz screen, which remains at 2.5K resolution and 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut, and a 170-degree travel support stands on the back. The 70 watt-hour battery of the CNC-zet aluminum unibody construction enables a maximum of 10 hours of use, while the thermal chamber of the second-generation Arc Flow air stirrer cooling is made of stainless steel.

Of course, the manufacturer has also updated the ROG XG Mobile external video card, so it now comes with a Thunderbolt 5 connector, and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 GPU is hidden inside its casing. The housing of the easily portable keyboard, studded with addressable lights, is partially transparent, and in addition to DisplayPort 2.1 and an HDMI output, there are two 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports and an SD card reader.
