There are both male and female options, and the AI makes them an interesting yet expensive alternative.
Realbotix presented interesting robots at this year’s CES. While other companies focus on replacing human work in certain areas of industry from the point of view of robotics, the aforementioned company develops robots designed as companions. And the companion should be understood specifically as a companion providing social relations, i.e. a human-like robot with which you can have a conversation.
The basis of the technology is provided by AI, which is actually a large language model. Our voice can be sent via a phone to the server that provides the robot’s brain, so to speak, which after processing the information sends a response to the robot itself, which practically tells the response. This is how the communication between the human and the robot is realized, while the device itself is also capable of certain gestures, trying to simulate that we are really talking to a human. The latter is still quite rudimentary, so it is very clear that it is a robot, but the conversation part works roughly. In fact, the user can even choose which LLM service to connect the bots to, or they can even be based on ChatGPT. Moreover, in terms of language, you don’t have to stick to English either.
A FlytPath on the YouTube channel called Realbotix, the head of Realbotix also presented the two female prototypes, of which Aria can communicate in a standing position, while Melody can communicate in a sitting position. From this point of view, the position is still a strong limitation, so the robots will not go beyond that, but considering the development possibilities, maybe this will be possible in a few years. There is also a men’s version with an older design.
The robots currently cost $175,000, which means they are far from cheap, but they cover a new market that is not very saturated, so stronger competition between companies in this field may develop later.
