Another CES show, another chance for the tech industry to wow the crowds and dazzle us with what the future holds! This year, it’s EcoFlow that’s showing off something truly revolutionary… their new cool sunhat that does more for the planet and your phone. Granted, if you’re wearing an appropriate outerwear, it probably won’t look too out of place, but its aesthetics are secondary to its function.
As the name suggests, the EcoFlow Power Hat has small solar panels integrated into the lip that when you are out, will help you charge your mobile devices. The rim is segmented and each segment has a small set of monocrystalline silicon cells with a nominal efficiency of 24%.
At the bottom of the brim, there is a small plastic box with an LED light that shows you that the hat is charging. Pull back the attached rubber tabs and you’ll find a USB-A and USB-C port, allowing you to charge one or two devices at a time.
The EcoFlow says it’s capable of producing up to 5V / 2.4A, so you can expect it to keep your phone or tablet charged rather than producing anything too life-saving. Of course, there is no battery in the frame, so you will need to carry a long cable with you.
The company says it’s pretty sturdy, with each panel in a discrete section that you can fold down to almost pocket size. It’s IP65 certified, but avoid submerging it in water or putting it in a washing machine.
From a cost point of view, the EcoFlow Power Hat is currently on sale for $129!
