The two appeals were published on the CCR website. It is about a “Cancellation request, presidential elections in the first round of voting on November 24, 2024”, submitted on Wednesday by Sebastian Constantin Popescu, and a “Cancellation request, presidential elections in the first round of voting on of November 24, 2024” submitted on the same day by Cristian Terheș.

Terheș and Popescu were presidential candidates and had scores below 1%.

Previously, lawyer Elenina Nicut wrote on her Facebook account that there could be a request to cancel the presidential elections at the Constitutional Court.

Petre Lăzăroiu: Zero chance! So what do we do, we return the dead from the pit

Petre Lăzăroiu, former judge of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR), believes that the requests to cancel the first round of the 2024 presidential elections do not have a solid legal basis and there are no reasons for invalidating them. According to Lăzăroiu, the electoral process was carried out correctly, and the legal procedures were respected in the organization and conduct of the elections. In this context, he emphasizes that the chances of these requests being accepted by the CCR are extremely low.

This opinion reflects a view that the electoral procedures, including those related to the organization, monitoring and validation of votes, are in accordance with the law in force, and the arguments supporting the annulment are not supported by concrete evidence.

“Zero chance! Well, what do we do, do we return the dead from the pit?”, affirmed Lăzăroiu for truthreferring to the speculations in the public space regarding the cancellation of the first rounds of the elections. The judge went on to say that “things have run their course” and that no significant complaints have been registered with the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) for major fraud.

Next, Petre Lăzăroiu addressed the issue of dissatisfaction related to the knowledge of the candidates by the voters, emphasizing that “and what would be the problem? That no one knew who the candidate was and that’s why he won? Very good! Everyone wins with the weapons they choose, for now there are no illegal weapons.”

The former judge added that there was no evidence to support the allegations of electoral fraud.

“What to prove? The numbers are clear, they were given in real time, so regardless of whether you count them or not, they still come out,” said Lăzăroiu. In his opinion, the allegations of electoral fraud are unfounded. “What can you prove, that votes were stolen from one and put into another? Because the orientation of each voter is his problem,” concluded Petre Lăzăroiu.
