«It all started in 2017 – says Roberto Colletto, CEO of Castiglione swimming pools – the day after the assignment of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We immediately thought that this was the opportunity to combine our technology, our experience and the unique opportunity presented by the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We looked back at all our previous Olympic Games, from Atlanta 1996, Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016…
And honestly, we asked ourselves: what went well? What would we do the same again, and conversely, are there things we would not do again? When did we encounter difficulties? How did we manage the postponement of Tokyo 2020 in the midst of a pandemic? What lessons can we draw from this event and what should guide our actions from now on? I am convinced that this strong connection with past experience is the best guarantee of our momentum towards the future.
The foundation of our company in 1961 by my father, Giorgio Colletto, is the most solid foundation of the Piscine Castiglione family, which today has over 350 employees and exports to 70 countries, with a 2023 turnover of 108 million euros”.
Roberto Colletto is proud to be the protagonist of his brand Myrtha Pools Of Paris 2024. This is their sixth Olympics as leaders capable of putting excellence, futuristic technology and eco-sustainability into play. A total of 24 modular stainless steel pools have been installed around Paris and used for all Olympic aquatic disciplines, including swimming, synchronized swimming, diving, water polo and training sessions: among these, we remember the spectacular one in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles: a temporary 25 x 16 m swimming pool that will host the modern pentathlon competition.
Myrtha Pools always pays great attention to sustainability: approximately 80% of the materials will be reused in the post-Olympic Legacy phase, including structural elements, accessories and water treatment consisting of filtration and disinfection with chlorine. But let’s see some important records: Myrtha Pools has created the swimming pool of theOlympic Aquatic Centerspecifically designed by the Piscine Castiglione engineering team to guarantee maximum modularity for all Olympic disciplines and for future uses.
Made of stainless steel, 70 m long and 25 m wide, it is the largest of its kind in France and Europe. Thanks to two movable bridges, it can be configured into 5 pools of 25 m each, a single 50 m pool, 3 smaller 25 m pools or a single 33 m pool suitable for water polo. After the Games, the Olympic Aquatic Centre will become the largest diving training centre in France and will be open to all. While in 2026, it will once again be the stage for international competitions, as it will be the venue for the European Swimming Championships.
It is a true triumph of excellence that of Myrtha Pools – Piscine Castiglione: «With Paris 2024, our company is truly making history. I want to celebrate this milestone in the life of our company, but also make it the starting point of a new adventure. Because our legacy is solid, but our company is only at the beginning of its History – our History», concludes CEO Roberto Colletto.
