Will Joshua Kimmich continue at FC Bayern? The future of the German international is currently a matter of speculation. Now Munich’s sporting director Max Eberl has commented on the personnel matter.
“He still has a year left on his contract. We have agreed that we will talk to each other after his vacation,” Eberl explained in an interview with “Welt”.
Kimmich is “a very good player, but it is generally true that professional football is a competitive sport – we cannot say to any player per se: Hey, you are the one who is set,” explained the FC Bayern sporting director. However, this principle applies to everyone, the 50-year-old added.
“We have exciting players in all positions and therefore many alternatives. Since we have a new coach who also wants to get an overview first, we cannot yet say who it is and who it is not,” said Eberl, referring to the arrival of Tuchel’s successor Vincent Kompany.
Kimmich’s “great achievements” for FC Bayern are “beyond question”. “Nevertheless, everyone at FC Bayern has to accept the fight for a regular place. In general, we keep our contracts and meet our obligations. We expect the same from the players – and that includes them always giving their best performance and we demand that they want to play for FC Bayern and give everything for this club,” Eberl continued.
FC Bayern: Tough competition in midfield
Kimmich has been playing for the German record champions since 2015. Under Kompany’s predecessor Tuchel, the 29-year-old played as a right-back during the second half of the season. Kimmich also played in the defensive line at the European Championships.
At FC Bayern, the competition in central midfield is fierce with new signing Joao Palhinha as well as Leon Goretzka, Konrad Laimer and Aleksandar Pavlovic.
