ChatGPT for Mac Now Works with Xcode

ChatGPT app for Mac can now integrate with coding applications such as Xcode, VS Code, TextEdit and Terminal. In this way, the app simplifies workflows where developers copy and paste their code from a coding application into ChatGPT.

TechCrunchWhen ChatGPT is given permission to interact with an app like Xcode through a new Working with Apps feature, a code selection can be sent directly to ChatGPT along with a prompt, reports .

In the demo, an OpenAI employee opened an Xcode environment containing the ChatGPT application and a simple solar system modeling project, but the Earth was missing. The employee selected an Xcode tab within ChatGPT that told the AI chatbot to look at the app and told the bot to “add the missing planets.” The chatbot was able to complete the task by writing a line of code representing the Earth that matched the format of the rest of the project.

In October, GitHub brought Copilot integration to Xcode, and Copilot provides coding assistance in the app. For now, ChatGPT’s integration is not that deep and you can’t code in Xcode. ChatGPT instead uses the macOS Accessibility API for screen readers, which allows apps to read text. This means it cannot interpret images or videos.

While the new ChatGPT for Mac feature is available for ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Teams users as of today, Enterprise and Edu support will also come in the near future. OpenAI plans to bring this integration to other applications going forward.
