OpenAI with the SearchGPT search engine revolutionizes the world of search – by connecting artificial intelligence, conversation and reliable sources, it now competes with Google.

Artificial intelligence has also penetrated web search. OpenAI introduced SearchGPT.
Large companies must be very careful when using such fundamental tools as artificial intelligence. In short, they cannot afford to experiment too much so as not to upset millions of users who may not like the changes. However, smaller, innovative firms that are quick and flexible can benefit from their hard-working approach. An example is the company OpenAI, which these days has expanded its artificial intelligence with a web search engine. The tool is available to all subscribers and select users who have signed up for the new product testing program.
The new tool is called SearchGPT and for OpenAI it is a ticket to the world of search engines, which have been dominated by Google for many years. SearchGPT is based on artificial intelligence and brings an alternative that can also be called “revolutionary.” It can change the way users search for information on the Internet. So what can the novelty do? SearchGPT uses advanced OpenAI language models to provide instant and contextually relevant answers. Unlike traditional search engines, SearchGPT focuses on direct user interaction in the style of a conversational chatbot, allowing users to ask follow-up questions and develop a conversation. This interaction is customized to provide accurate answers and guidance without the need to search and visit multiple pages. You can imagine it by entering a specific term into the search engine and using subsequent commands to refine the search until the artificial intelligence shows you the information you are looking for.
What’s the matter? Cooperation with media houses
One of the main advantages of SearchGPT is cooperation with renowned media companies. OpenAI has partnered with publishers such as The Wall Street Journal and The Atlantic to provide users with reliable and verified sources of information. These collaborations not only ensure high quality responses, but also allow publishers to control how their content is displayed and processed. However, someone can argue that this information is only one-sided, or that its moderation is in the hands of the provider, in this case OpenAI. Only time will tell if that is the case.
In the pilot operation, the publishers themselves will also benefit from the cooperation, for which large language models such as ChatGPT were reducing the traffic on their websites. OpenAI is therefore trying to ensure a fairer cooperation, whereby publishers can control how their content is displayed, or they can decide to completely end cooperation with OpenAI, which will exclude their content from the search engine when interpreting the results.
Simple and more conversational search
SearchGPT differs from a classic search in that the answers are directly integrated into the conversation. For example, it will answer a question about vegan restaurants in the capital by listing them, showing them on maps and other relevant information, such as the daily menu and so on. This way of presenting information is tailored to get answers quickly. Additionally, users can ask additional questions, making the search more flexible and interactive than most search engines today.
This type of search is also a challenge for Google. That this is the case is also proven by the immediate, three percent drop in the value of the parent company Alphabet’s shares. Although Google also tests new AI technologies, but not to the same extent and with an immediate effect as competitor OpenAI. SearchGPT is currently available to subscribers and will eventually be integrated directly into ChatGPT. The company expects that it will gradually become a basic search tool on the Internet, where it will quickly and efficiently provide quality and verified information.
