ChatGPT – stopped unexpectedly for many

Users noticed the phenomenon the day after Christmas.

OpenAI’s flagship chatbot, or ChatGPT, experienced significant outages around 2pm on Thursday. This happened at the exact time when many people would have reached for the application for relaxation or entertainment after the hustle and bustle of Christmas.

A Down Detector reported that on the day after Christmas, a large number of users reported that ChatGPT was essentially unusable. Although the problems affected the service widely, the situation improved relatively quickly: within about half an hour, the number of complaints started to decrease.

Dropouts occurred in different ways depending on how the user tried to use ChatGPT. Based on the feedback, the “send” button next to the input field of the text request was grayed out in some cases, so it was not possible to click on it. In others, the desktop version of ChatGPT generated an error message after every command was sent, so it was not possible to use chatbot there either.

At the time of writing this article, we found that order had been restored; we were able to use both the mobile and desktop version of ChatGPT without interruption.
