Chery Auto is launching the Omuda and Jaecoo in Europe this year, with an initial focus on vehicles with gasoline engines. After sales have begun in Spain, Italy, Poland and the UK, more countries will be added in the coming months, as well as hybrid and all-electric models.

In an interview with Reuters, the CEO of Omoda and Jaecoo for Italy compared the Kia, Hyundai, Nissan and Volkswagen brands to his product.

“It took almost 20 years for South Korea’s Kia to become a trusted brand in Europe, and our goal is to build that status within three years,” Cheng said, adding that investment plans for marketing and brand development in Europe are confidential, but that it is a “huge sum of money, billions of euros”.

Export brands Omoda and Jaecoo did not give cumulative sales figures in Europe, but said they sold nearly 150,000 vehicles in the first eight months of the year.

The European Union proposes an additional tariff of 20.7 percent on Chery cars, as part of planned tariffs on electric vehicles produced in China. Biznis.rs
