A 5-year-old child who was left unconscious after being left on a mat at a Taekwondo gym in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, has unfortunately passed away.

According to the investigative authorities on the 23rd, 5-year-old boy A, who had been unconscious, was pronounced dead that day. Earlier, at around 7:20 pm on the 12th, an incident occurred in which instructor B of a taekwondo gym in Deokgye-dong, Yangju-si rolled up a mat and placed boy A upside down in it and left him there for over 20 minutes. The police investigation found that after training that day, instructor A lifted boy B and put his head and upper body into the gap in the middle of the rolled up mat. It was found that for 20 minutes, instructor A did not take any action on boy B and did not even look inside to check his condition. Witnesses at the scene stated that boy B struggled and shouted, “Take me out,” but instructor A ignored him.
Eventually, B, who had been left unattended for a long time, lost consciousness and collapsed. Seeing this, Mr. A, who was surprised, took B to a hospital near the gym and received CPR. After taking B to the hospital, Mr. A immediately went to the gym and formatted the computer that stored the gym’s CCTV footage.
After analyzing CCTV footage from the day of the crime, including recent footage from the day of the crime, through forensic work, the police arrested and investigated Mr. B on charges of child abuse resulting in serious bodily harm and sent him to the case on the 19th. As Mr. A died, the charges against Mr. B are likely to change to child abuse resulting in death.
