‘The experience of giving something precious to someone I don’t even know.’

Mr. Kim, who celebrated his 40th birthday last year, thought that ‘being alive in itself is a miracle.’ To express his gratitude to the world that allowed him to enjoy the life he has today, Mr. Kim decided to share what he had. After deciding to donate, he donated about 10 million won to the project of Good Neighbors, a global non-governmental organization (NGO) specializing in children’s rights.

Mr. Kim’s childhood was not easy. Mr. Kim said, “Do you know what it feels like to have no one in the world to protect me? When this is combined with poverty, the unconscious mind that ‘I am afraid of the world, that I am abandoned by the world’ takes root. Maybe that’s why my body and mind were always tense. “I worked really hard to escape from reality, but eventually, a few years ago, my body started to hurt,” he confessed.

He said, “When I came home from work, I didn’t have the energy to eat. “I would lie down for about 3 hours and then barely move my body, eat a sip of food, and then fall asleep. This continued for over 6 months,” he said. “As my body hurt, at some point, I stopped ‘forced to do something’ and thought, ‘Let’s just do what I can.’ “As I relaxed, I started to feel grateful even for small things,” he said.
