China is working on an energy weapon that combines multiple beams

China’s military is working on an experimental energy weapon system that focuses multiple streams of microwaves into a powerful energy beam, according to the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

In other words, this energy weapon is somewhat similar to the Death Star from the Star Wars series, albeit on a much smaller scale.

According to the Chinese publication, scientists say they have “completed experimental tests on its potential use for military purposes.”

However, it remains to be seen whether their efforts will ever lead to a weapon powerful enough to destroy a planet, as we see in Star Wars, or even to destroy much smaller targets. A major problem is accumulating a sufficient number of electromagnetic waves at the same point, an extremely difficult process. According to SCMP, scientists have calculated that it should achieve a positioning accuracy of a few millimeters and a time synchronization of 170 trillion seconds, higher accuracy than an atomic clock.

The Chinese claim to have developed a highly advanced energy weapon

However, the researchers claim to have been able to achieve this level of accuracy in their recent experiments. While it may not be able to destroy hostile targets, the researchers found that the system can jam signals from US-owned GPS satellites, “achieving multiple objectives such as training, testing new technologies and military exercises.”

Scientists say that by combining the microwave streams, they could achieve a power level greater than the sum of each individual beam. Not surprisingly, researchers have remained vague about the potential uses of this technology, write Futurism.

Meanwhile, the United States has long been exploring similar technologies. For example, the Air Force has developed a high-power microwave-based directed-energy weapon system called the Tactical High-power Operational Responder designed to counter drones. However, it remains uncertain whether any of these projects will lead to a practical weapon. For now, military powers will settle for directed energy weapons capable of disrupting electronics and disabling communications signals to gain an advantage on the battlefield.
